Darmyn Calderon

ABOUT

I am a multi-disciplinary visual artist and film editor. My focus is on video, photography, dance, documentary and sound design. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, both my Australian and Ecuadorian heritage guide my storytelling interests.

As an editor, I’ve worked on several award-winning documentary films such as KNOTS: A FORCED MARRIAGE STORY (Best Documentary film, Manchester International Film Festival), THE LIFE AND CRIMES OF DORIS PAYNE (Best Documentary, Ojai Film Festival), and THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES (Best Director Award, Sundance).

With my experimental projects – film as well as photography – I’m driven by curiosity about the ever-changing world around me. I’m intrigued by the challenge of inviting an audience into an immersive experience or a journey that feels strange, uncomfortable, and oddly familiar at the same time. The final result is just as important to me as the process, and the people involved.
